Aldurel, capital of the Canton of Trevis in Coreune, sits atop the ruins of at least two ancient cities. These cities met their destruction by fire, tsunami, and earthquake, but most importantly, by revolution. Aldurel has been the site of numerous revolts and uprisings against the moneyed classes, and several times these uprisings have led to the city's complete destruction. In 1432, the king of Coreune decreed that a new city be constructed on the remains of the old, at the mouth of the River Trevis, this time with a massive hilltop fortress overlooking the sea. The fortress was placed under military command to dissuade any future revolts and uprising, and also to defend Coreune's coast from foreign invasion. This strategy has seemed to work, as the city has never been invaded by foreign armies; however, revolutionaries are once again stirring in the city as the DSS exerts increasing control over their daily lives.

Because of its position, Aldurel is called the "Gateway to the Seas." The Oceanic Traders Guild has adopted the fortified and well-placed city as one of its base ports, so Aldurel contains hundreds of luxuriant manors. Merchants feel that the harbor is ideal for their purpose, and the OTG pledges large portions of its resources to maintain the city in exchange for royal tax concessions. As one might expect, the OTG has gained considerable power here and pushes smaller merchant companies to the sidelines. With the support of the DSS, and without a counterbalance to their influence, Guild officials have become the unofficial rulers of Aldurel, with the commander of the hill fortress as one of their primary allies.

Recently though, the situation in the city has changed. The current ranking noble of the region, Earl Hadrian Audincourt, sees OTG power as a threat to economic stability; this has not made him fast friends of either the Guild officials or the city's commander, and has placed him as a "person of interest," albeit a highly-ranking one, in the DSS databases. At the moment the situation is quite unstable, and the residents have become anxious with the ongoing tension between the earl and the commander along with his Guild allies. In fact, some observers believe it is only a matter of time before outright violence erupts in the city streets.
